  • A Partnership Built on Shared Purpose – Rainy Day Trust & Wellbeing People

For more than 182 years, the Rainy Day Trust has been there when people in the home improvement and home enhancement sector need support most, offering a vital safety net during times of hardship and uncertainty. That role remains as important as ever. But today, the conversation around wellbeing is evolving.

As pressures on employees continue to rise, from long hours and physical demands to economic uncertainty and burnout, there is growing recognition that supporting people only at the point of crisis is no longer enough. True impact comes from helping individuals and organisations prevent challenges before they escalate.

It is from this shared understanding that the Rainy Day Trust has formed a strategic partnership with Wellbeing People, a wellbeing specialist with a proven track record in delivering accessible, evidence-based programmes that support sustainable behaviour change.

From Crisis Support to Proactive Prevention

For decades, the Rainy Day Trust has provided emergency financial assistance and emotional support to individuals facing hardship. While this safety net remains vital, the Trust is now expanding its focus to place prevention at the heart of its wellbeing strategy, supporting people throughout their working lives, not just in moments of crisis.

Work-related mental health challenges cost the UK economy an estimated £57.4 billion each year, with burnout affecting nearly two-thirds of employees. Within the home improvement and home enhancement sector, these challenges can be particularly pronounced due to the physical nature of work, long hours and ongoing economic pressures.

Wellbeing People’s approach aligns closely with this evolved mission. Its programmes are built around small, sustainable habit changes that fit into everyday working life, helping individuals make meaningful improvements to their health and wellbeing without unrealistic expectations or quick fixes.

“Partnering with experts is essential to bringing the very best wellbeing support to the sector,” says Anna Skeats, CEO of Rainy Day Trust.

“Wellbeing People’s proven programmes, innovative technology and strong corporate track record made them the natural choice. Together, this partnership allows wellbeing to be embedded into organisational culture, helping people prioritise their health before challenges become crises.”

What the Partnership Delivers

Through the partnership, Rainy Day Trust and Wellbeing People are launching sector-wide wellbeing initiatives designed to reach thousands of employees across the home improvement and home enhancement industry.

These include wellbeing fundraising campaigns such as Mad March Million, a month-long movement challenge bringing together 25 businesses with a shared goal of collectively reaching one million steps while supporting the Rainy Day Trust’s vital work. The challenge focuses on collaboration, inclusion and consistency, encouraging participants to dedicate just 10 active minutes per day to movement, whether that’s walking meetings, taking the stairs or building movement into the working day in a way that suits individual ability levels.

Later in the year, the partnership will also deliver A Thousand Smiles September, a campaign that encourages small acts of kindness to support stronger workplace relationships and a more connected working culture.

For Rainy Day Trust’s Gold and Platinum corporate partners, the collaboration extends further through access to Wellbeing People’s Habits for Health programme. This personalised digital platform combines behavioural science, guided coaching, on-demand content and practical resources to support employees in building healthier, more balanced lives.

A Shared Vision for Sector Wellbeing

Both organisations share a belief that prevention is better than cure and that sustainable change happens when people are empowered with the right tools, knowledge and support.

By normalising conversations around wellbeing and embedding simple, achievable habits into everyday working life, this partnership aims to help shift the sector’s approach, from reactive crisis response to proactive, preventative wellbeing.

“Wellbeing People is extremely proud to be partnering with the Rainy Day Trust,” says Ben McGannan, Managing Director of Wellbeing People.

“This collaboration represents a shared commitment to raising the bar for prevention and wellbeing across a vital and vibrant sector. As part of this commitment, Rainy Day Trust has been selected as Wellbeing People’s chosen charity for 2026.”

Together, Rainy Day Trust and Wellbeing People are building the foundations for healthier, happier and more resilient workplaces, ensuring wellbeing support is available not only when people fall, but at every step of their journey.
